About me

Chloé Turner

BHSc (Nat)

Hey there and welcome! Here is a short version of who I am and the long version will follow if you’re as interested in other people as I am.

I’d love to give you a feel for who I am as a person and as a naturopath, to help you decide whether I am the right person to support your health journey.

Afterwards, If you are still unsure, you can book in for a free 15 minute discovery call (here) and we can meet, chat over your goals and what I can specifically do for you.

In the meantime, here is my story!.

Short Story

My journey to becoming a naturopath started as a kid. I was a born “helper”, always checking in with my friends and family and genuinely loved listening (and talking) to everyone.

Combining this personality trait with an eagerness to understand the world at large and an autoimmune diagnosis at just 13 years old and voila, working in healthcare just made sense.

I started studying to be a naturopath after years of yo-yoing my diet, supplements and medications. I completed my Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy at Endeavour College in 2015 and went on to work for Bioceuticals the following year.

Since 2017 I have worked in private practice and as a freelance writer. In this time I have facilitated programs for other practitioners and mentored my colleagues in the areas of fertility, autoimmunity, Hashimoto’s, Crohn’s, IBS, SIBO and Colitis.

I am also a yoga teacher, as this has been a lifeline for me in terms of managing my own health. While yoga isn’t for everyone I am a big advocate for mindfulness practice and finding your own way to find inner calm.

Without inner calm, the rest is a bandaid.

How can I help you?

My goal as your practitioner is to facilitate you finding the right path to get you to where you want to be. This might look like dietary and lifestyle changes, may include supplements and will always include support in helping you to create healthy habits and break through barriers that are inhibiting you from making change.

I will help you learn to communicate with your doctors better, understand your pathology testing, advocate for yourself, and generally understand your health better and your treatment options.

I often work with people who are on one or more medications for long term health complaints. I am trained in and have a specific interest in managing pharmaceutical medications alongside herbal and nutritional supplements.

Bringing together two worlds of medicine, mainstream and complementary, is where I see the greatest health outcomes.

Long Story

Who am I really?

I’d love to get philosophical here but I’ll spare you ;)  I am a naturopath, yogi, and a mentor. I’m also an aunty, friend, sister, daughter, colleague and all round advocate for those around me.

I was a sick kid. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s after years of being told my symptoms were fictitious or self-imposed. Even after I was diagnosed I spent another 10 years being told I was fine while experiencing chronic pain, fatigue and anxiety. The medications were making my bloodwork look good, but I was definitely not well.

I finally saw a naturopath and for the first time I felt truly seen by a practitioner.

The naturopath gave me…. magnesium. Yep, it was that tiny step that started me on the trajectory to better health. The step that saw me come off medications, started me towards studying naturopathy and motivated me to make changes to my diet. Let’s be honest, she did much more than just give me magnesium, but it still baffles me to this day how my doctors had never thought to suggest this simple mineral when it made so much sense.

Magnesium was my 20% effort for 80% improvement. I talk about this in practice with my patients - what can you do that takes the least effort but will give you the greatest outcome? This can be especially important in the early days of understanding your health. Is there ONE thing you could change that will give you the leg up you need to help you make other changes?

For me, becoming a naturopath was more than helping people, it was a burning desire to understand the human body and to have more autonomy with my own health. The fact that I could have a bowel disease and it impacted my moods and joints so significantly was so curious to me.

Why did I get an autoimmune disease so young? How did my environment, diet, upbringing and genetics create a perfect storm for autoimmune disease development?

I am passionate about understanding how the microbiome impacts our immune systems, and how we can regulate our immune systems through simple and sustainable practices.

Yoga is just one of the practices I have been able to introduce into my life that helps me to improve my every day health. I started practicing yoga at 21, but it was many years before it became a regular practice. I was always interested in meditation, but the idea of sitting still and just “letting go” was beyond me. It made me anxious. So I looked for movement to facilitate mindfulness.

Please check out my blogs for more info. I write about  my journey to managing my own health, as well as debunking some commonly held beliefs in science and health.

I will be releasing a podcast in the coming months. If you’re keen for a listen, please subscribe to emails so that I can keep you in the loop!
